What does PPP use?
Precise Point Positioning uses precise orbit, clock and related correction products to estimate absolute position with one receiver. It reduces dependence on a nearby customer-owned reference station, but still requires suitable observations, correction products and a delivery link.
What does PPP-RTK add?
PPP-RTK combines precise positioning and ambiguity resolution with regional information, including atmospheric corrections, to shorten the path to the target accuracy. Results depend on the service, correction products, receiver and environment.
Comparing the approaches
| Dimension | RTK | PPP | PPP-RTK |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main corrections | Reference observations and differential information | Precise orbit, clock and related products | Precise products, biases and regional information |
| Reference dependency | Local or network reference stations | No nearby customer-owned base required | Compatible service and regional products |
| Convergence | Can fix quickly under suitable conditions | Typically accumulates observations | Designed to shorten precise convergence |
| Evaluation focus | Baseline, link and obstruction | Product quality, delivery and wait time | Coverage, compatibility and recovery |
Corrections without public internet
Public networks, radio and satellite broadcasting are different delivery methods. Alternative links can be evaluated where public internet is unavailable, subject to coverage, terminal capability, authorization and availability. No local base does not mean no external corrections.
Relationship to HOPO
HOPO evaluates wide-area corrections, terminal fusion and communications within LEO augmentation and satellite-to-ground projects. Define accuracy, region, connectivity and timing first, then confirm the delivered service and terminal.
